After Action Report: 2-6-11

Date: 2-6-11
Location: St. Marks River, Wakulla River, Shore

Went fishing on Sunday to relieve stress more than to catch fish, which is a good thing, cause I caught Jack and Shit...and Jack left town. Not much to report on, used the same tactics, bait, and locations (for the most part) as last week. But, unlike last week, I barely even got a bump on my lines and never even had the chance to lose a fish during the fight. Bummer.

Looking out from Old Fort across the St. Marks River
Since the fish were not biting at the State Park or the City Park just up the Wakulla River, I decided to go adventuring for future fishing locations. Details, and another picture from Old Fort, after the jump.

As mentioned, I was NOT catching any fish at locations in and around the town of Saint Marks, so I packed my gear into my tiny, two door Honda Civic and headed back to Highway 98. I decided to go left (west) to check out the new bridge over the Wakulla River. Not much had changed there, even with the new bridge, from the last time I had been at that boat ramp in high school. No place to really fish, but a great place to launch a canoe or kayak to fish and/or float down the Wakulla River. +1 for this Location.

After that I headed West on Highway 98 to the bridge over the St. Marks River at Newport, another location I had not been to since high school. WOW! Great little ramp for small craft, place to fish on west bank of river next to ramp and under the bridge. I fished there for a little bit, but caught nothing. This could've been due to the fish not biting, my ability to fish, the bait I was using or the little kid continually throwing rocks into the river from the boat ramp towards me. Who knows.

While packing up to leave and investigating the (now) empty launch area, I met a guy in an older minivan with an really awesome, homemade canoe rack on top of the van. I was quite impressed as he detailed how he had welded the frame together from scrap metal around his property then securely bolted the whole contraption onto the top of the van. The guy was very pleasant and nice, a bit older, even recommended a cheap and easy way to carry a kayak on top of my little Civic without buying or making an elaborate rack system. Going to attempt, with my dad, to make this improvised rack tomorrow afternoon. I would like to be able to carry my little kayak on my car, even if its not really meant for fishing, it gives me the ability to access places I otherwise wouldn't be able to reach.

So, thats it, but as promised here is another picture from Old Fort looking out to where the St. Marks and Wakulla Rivers come together.
A little kid had crossed my line and pulled my rod into the picture right as I snapped
TL;DR = Went fishin, caught nothin, explored the area a bit.
